Vintage Faux Fur Coat {Thrift Store Score}

Of course I had to edit at least two with a vintage vibe! ;)

It's been awhile since I've shared a Thrift Store Score...probably because thrifting has become more of an occasional event then almost weekly like I was a couple years ago.

My NEW winter coat was from one of my thrifting trips not so long ago...a vintage faux fur coat found at Goodwill for $9.99!

I was a little worried how it was going to come out after being cleaned.
The coat says "Dry Clean Only" but our dry cleaner doesn't do fur (faux or real) so I decided to just wash it in the washing machine. It'd either get clean or fall apart... Thankfully it came out just fine!
If you're curious I washed it in-side out, on the gentle cycle and took it out as soon as it was done washing. Letting it hang dry both ways out, I brushed the fur down with my hand before it dried and it was a no complaint process!

I'm actually a bit amazed how warm it is! Which why should I be?? It's heavier then the coat I was wearing!

70s Quilt - Thrift Store Score

I'm excited to share this quilt with you! It's 74 x 72 just two inches shy of being a complete square! 

Much to Kimberly's dismay...I snatched it up for $10! (She is usually the one who finds amazing deals on quilts...Not today sis...not today!)

I love the prints and the fact that it was handmade! There is even hand stitches running diagonally through the quilt. I just can't get over how much I love this quilt!!

I hope this is the beginning of more Thrift Store Scores popping up regularly.
We have still been thrifting (of course) but have ceased sharing weekly. 

We probably won't get back to the weekly schedule...maybe bi-monthly? I don't know.

February Stashbusting Totals

February has been a strange sewing month… I've sewed a lot and I also bought a lot. 

February was also sad as I found out my favorite fabric store Hancock Fabrics is closing. :( 

I enjoy the shopping experience there so much… 

I also had $80 worth of gift cards and after talking with the rest of the folks in the Stashbusting group on FaceBook we decided it would be best to use those up. Almost like a "free pass" to buy fabric. 

I was very focused in my buying only buying the fabric that I loved (Black and white checkered) and two other fabrics for specific projects. (You can see them below) 

Thrift Store Score - Happy Day Book (Children's Book)

WOW! It has been a crazy few weeks! 

On Saturday, I got back home from a three week trip. Mostly spending my time in Nicaragua, a few days in Texas, and a weekend in Iowa at the Sheep and Wool Festival. (Posts will be coming!! :)) 

I thought I would have time to work on the the blog and get Thrift Store Scores scheduled...It didn't happen ;)

I know it the first Tuesday of July, but the special postings for July and August will start next week. We are going to be taking a short break from exclusively Thrift Store Scores and share some Garage Sale Scores!! Very summery, I think! :)

Without further babbling here is today's Thrift Store Score:

Thrift Store Score - Vintage Red Polka Dot Dress

"Exibit A. This is the logo of a fantabulous blog called Jewberly Emiris."

When I saw this dress on the hanger I didn't like it.

After I brought it home and tried it on...that all changed!

The dress is so comfortable!

It fit's like a glove!
(okay....tangent alert. 
Why do we say fit's like a glove? Because I tried a pair of gloves on the other day at Salvation Army Thrift and they wouldn't even had fit in my dreams!!!
anyways...*radio announcer voice* Back to the regular scheduled program.)

The dress is from "Oops California."
haha Maybe, the best name ever! ;)

$3.50 well spent!

Thrift Store Score - Food Scale

This scale is another sack sale find! It was marked a dollar but I got it for five cents. :)

Being a diabetic there are plenty of times where I need to weigh my food to know how many carbs are in it for proper counting. But I don't really make a habit of it...why? Because I don't have a scale. Oh' wait. "Didn't" have a scale! This guy is going to be put to work! :)

It's great that it doesn't need batteries or an outlet!

Thrift Store Score - Vintage Coffee Cup

I must like brown kitchen supplies because I could leave this coffee mug at GoodWill! 

I have this Pinterest dream of a coffee cup wall. You know the ones where all the cups match but, at the same time, don't and it ends up looking really artsy. 

...Mine will probably end up looking like I ran out of room in my cupboards and decided to awkwardly hang them on the wall instead. But...hey. ;)

As you can see, it was made in Japan and is in pretty good condition. :)

Thrift Store Score - Pfaltzgraff Village Design Finds

I have a set of  Pfaltzgraff in the 1970s village design. I am continuing to expand it through thrifting and gifts from my family. 

I struck gold. Or rather my sister told me where I could strike gold a while back.

Tiffany was at Goodwill where there was some Pfaltzgraff and she told me about it.

Here's the few pieces I picked up:

This is a 2 quart mixing bowl.
It is microwave and oven safe. Think about it...You make goulash, bake it in the oven, put the leftovers in the fridge and then microwave it the next day! I mean this is a one stop shop kind of bowl!!

At $3.99 I couldn't leave this gift to the modern kitchen there. ;)

Next up is this thing… I call it a crock. I don't know if "crock" is the official title but that is what I am going to call it. 

On one of the sides of the lid it has a opening for your spoon handle to go through. Which, is pretty cool because you can keep the lid on and still have your spoon in the crock.

I imagine these... at Thanksgiving. Holding the steamy vegetables on either side of the big turkey sitting in the middle of the table as he is looking all stately. 

Okay, like I said...that's what I imagine with these. ;)
It probably won't happen because our family has the turkey carved before it's put in the serving line. Saves a lot of time when you have a big extended family like we do! :) 

But I can see these pans/dishes having limitless possibilitys!

Thrift Store Score - Susan Bates Double Pointed Needles

Hey, everybody it's time to share another knitting score I found!

I found these needles at Jewel and I's favorite thrift store!

As you can see, they are lavender. It's fun to have such a sweet color of needles.

They came in the original package, but I don't know if they are brand new or if they were just stored in the case. I know they are vintage because they came in a package like that and there are only four.

Thrift Store Score - Diet Scale

While I was home for Christmas in January, I went with Jewel, TaMera, Mom & Dad to one of their favorite thrift stores: The Bargain Box.

I came across this vintage diet scale that I snatched up for $1.

 I'm planning to just use it as a regular food scale, (I doubt any dieting will be involved).

Thrift Store Score? - Cattle Measurement Tape

Do you remember that time I bought a beaker, not totally on purpose? 

Well, this find was much like that...

See, this is a calf measurement tape. You wrap it around the calf and it tells you the estimated weight.

I ask you...Why, do I need a cattle measuring tape?

I guess if I ever want to make a dress for a cow...I'll have a measuring tape to fit it. haha

It is pretty cool looking. Maybe I'll use it as a decoration or part of a craft.

 If, I figure something out...I will be sure to tell you.

Thrift Store Score - Vintage Japan Made Coffee Cups

I found these at Goodwill and thought "SUPER CUTE"!!

They were $1.98 for the pair. (or ninety-nine cents each. ;))

Thrift Store Score - Red & Blue Moons in a White Sky Fabric (to Blouse)

This fabric didn't cost me fifty cents but five cents!
Yes, I found it at the sack sale. 

It sat in a drawer for two months because I had the hardest time figuring out what it should be.

When I was ready to sew again after TaMera's 1950's dress. I wanted to sew something semi-fast and easy!

What about a blouse?

I went to my drawer, saw this, and said to myself
"Now, that'll be a cute blouse!"

I choose to use Butterick B6185 and omitted the collar.

I feel like this blouse should be called the
"Try Everything Blouse".
(I almost used that as the title.)

See, I am a pattern follower.
But for this blouse I tried a bunch of stuff.

First I omitted the collar.
Easy, just skip the steps about the collar and go to the facing.

I wasn't done...

I wanted to have bias tape of the same fabric around the armholes.

I researched how to make bias tape. Knew it was going to be hard. (Because, I don't own a bias tape maker.) But, pressed on.

My mistake was cutting 1 inch wide strips.
(I should of cut 2 inch)
When I got it double folded it was 1/4 of an inch wide.
I tried to sew it on and for various reasons it didn't work.

It wasn't total waste because the fabric was leftover and I had a good lesson in bias tape making.

Instead of the bias tape, I rolled the armhole hems like the pattern had said.
(See, you don't follow the instructions and it doesn't turn out!! ;) )

My shorts are also a Thrift Store Score.  Found at Salvation Army for $2. 

The best part...the are Levi's! Aka, good quality. :)

Thrift Store Score - Tupperware Canisters & Spoon Rest

I love Tupperware. Actually, my entire family loves Tupperware. Tupperware is an investment, a loyal friend, and an acceptable gift for any occasion! Probably the reason my eye is always on search mode for Tupperware at thrift stores.

I found these canisters at the new Goodwill in Lincoln. It was a bundle price of $5.99.

They remind me a lot of my Grandma Carol. She had a bright green set holding her flour, white sugar and brown sugar. My set is smaller than Grandma Carol's, most likely, mine will hold white sugar, brown sugar and coffee. :)

I found this spoon rest for five cents at another Thrift Store! Now, how could I leave it there?? ;)

I love Tuesday's, thrifting and genuine Tupperware!

Thrift Store Score - Vintage Bow Back Dress

THIS DRESS FITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay! ...All it takes is some pulling and a little skin pitching from the zipper as it makes its way up.

At the store I could see that it was going to fit around the hips (where I usually have trouble) but never in my life would I thought the bodice wouldn't fit.

Most of the time dresses (and shirts) are too big in the bodice  (bust) area...not small!

With a little shuffling, as you  see, we can make it work!

The dress has a b-e-a-u-t-I-f-u-l bow back and a high V-neck neckline. The skirt is tea length and is gathered at the waist.

The dress was made by Lang Originals in the USA!

Wearable Thrift Store Scores are my favorite!
