Thrift Store Score - Navy Knit Fabric (To Two Skirts!)

I found this navy knit at the sack sale where everything, TaMera and I bought ended up being a nickel. (We stuffed that $3 sack!)

On the tag it said there was 1 1/4 yards of fabric at 60" wide.

Well, it was off by almost 2 3/4 yards! It was closer to 5 yards!!
What a fun surprise and one I didn't keep to myself!

I sewed  McCall's M6706 skirt D, for me.

The skirt is super comfortable!

Also, at the sack sale I found a navy 7 inch zipper and it was exactly what the pattern called for! Another item from the stash busted!

It pairs great with my yellow gingham blouse!
(You can read about that HERE)

I decided to sew Kimberly a skirt and surprise her by mailing it!

Because, I forgot to get her measurements during Christmas break...I chose a safe route with Simplicity 1201, a pull-on knit skirt.

I went with skirt A.
It looked more forgiving than the other options

The most expensive part of the skirt was the elastic, which I found on clearance for a dollar! :D
I think the skirt cost like $3.06 and that's including the pattern! (Bought on one of my 99 cent pattern sale runs)

Happy Tuesday!

A Yellow Gingham Blouse

I made my first blouse and in no way my last!

When I found this yellow gingham in the stash, I knew right away it was going to be a blouse!

There was about a yard and a half. Making my choices very limited.

Simplicity 1364, (A 1960s Jiffy reprint) fit the bill, perfectly.

I was hoping to have enough to add the sleeves or make the tie belt. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. ...Still, a little sad about that. :(

I tried pre-washing the fabric, ironing it, steam ironing it, and have come to the conclusion that the creases are from being folded and stored in the tote for so long.

Another good reason to get that stashed used!

From the stash:
- 1 yard yellow gingham fabric
- thread
- pattern

Fabric busted on this project: 1 1/4 yard (0.9144 m)
Fabric busted since March 1st, 2015: 5 1/2 yards (4.8006 m)

Thrift Store Score - Detailed Blouse

This was one of those buys where you saw it checking out and put it on the counter.

I do not regret the decision at all!

The detailing on the front is what sold me on it and the piping on the collar and cuffs!

Absolutely, lovely!

It is a size or two big. But, I kind of like the really loose feel of it.

Maybe one day, when I'm feeling  daring...I'll try altering it.

But today is not that day!

Pocketbook ReFashion

Supplies:

- Pocketbook
(Found mine in the $1 bin at Shopko Hometown)
- Paper of your choice.
(I used 12x12 scrapbook paper)
- Glue or Mod Podge
- Binder Clips
- Scissors
- Stamp and Ink (Optional)

Step 1. Is obviously, remove the cover. :)

Step 2. Take your book and lay on top of your paper. Trace the book on the wrong side of the paper with a pencil. Make sure to trace the back, the bind and the front. Cut out your trace.

Step 3. Line up one side of your paper with your book. Clip and flip.

Step 4. Glue on the bind.

Step 5. Put the clips on the binder and wait for glue to dry. (I waited about 30 minutes)

Step 6. Glue remaining sides of paper to outside of the book. Place clips on each corner.
Since, I only had two clips; I switched them to the other two corners after about 15-20 minutes.

Step 7. Carefully trim up edges.

Step 8. Decorate the front however you like. I used a stamp and black ink.
(The stamp is a Thrift Store Score I found in a bundle! I'll be sharing the bundle soon!)

I'm using it as a sewing notebook. Writing down ideas, measurements, and future sewing related projects!

Thrift Store Score - Looking A Little Green Fabric (to Skirt!)

This fabric was bought before March 1st and is a busted piece from my stash!

Twice a year my favorite thrifting spot has a Sack Sale.
A sack is $3 and you can stuff that thing!

In TaMera and I's main sack we got 64 items which came out to five cents per item!!
We had a blast!
She got mostly yarn and I got mostly sewing related stuff.
Like...this fabric!

With it only being a yard, I decided to use the same pattern as my House Skirt
McCall's M6438 skirt A.

I would of loved to have made it longer.
(I don't enjoy wearing short skirts/dresses)

I told Samantha;
"If I want it longer, I'll have to lose some inches on my midsection so it rides lower." :)

...I don't foresee that happening anytime soon. haha

This skirt cost me 10 cents!
I bought the fabric and the zipper at the sack sale. The matching thread was already in my stash!

From the stash:
- 1 yd. of fabric
- 7 in. zipper
- thread
- pattern
- interfacing (for waistband)

Happy Thrift Store Score Tuesday!
